Tarot Readings
What is Tarot?
Tarot is a tool that has existed in many forms for centuries. It is commonly used for surfacing perspectives, emotions, and questions we have about our life, specific situations, and relationships. It is used with reverence, as it a connection to messages of support from the Divine – whether you refer to the Divine as “God”, “Creator”, “Spirit”, or any other way of calling the energy that connects us all. Tarot, to me, is like another language, filled with symbols and meaning, through which we can surface patterns and questions.
How does a Tarot Reading work?
Before a reading, I ask the client if there is a specific focus for the reading, such as relationships, career choices, or general guidance. It’s helpful to think of a statement like “I’d like more support with …” or “I’m working to understand…”
From there, I will determine which spread to use and I will ask Spirit for guidance and clarity for the reading. Like most readers, I have a specific way in which I shuffle my deck and pull cards for the reading. After spending some time with each card and question, I will also look for patterns or trends within the spread, and also look for what isn’t represented in the spread. Sometimes, that gives us more information we may not have noticed already.
I do use references when needed to support my readings. Just like I would hope a doctor double-checks a diagnosis before sharing information, I wish to be diligent that I have not overlooked something.
What is the process?
If a client wishes to do a reading live with me, we will schedule time for a Zoom together and I will prepare the questions and spread prior. During the Zoom, I will pull the cards and read them live to you. Please note, when reading live, I will provide a recording of the Zoom session and a photograph of the cards.
If a client does not wish to be live for the reading, I will complete the reading solo. Please note, when reading solo, I will provide an audio recording of the session, a video with details or notes about the cards, and a photograph of the spread.
It is not important whether I read cards live with or without a client. Sometimes, I find it is easier to focus on the message without the client due to the fact that some readings bring up emotions and when reading live, I am also holding space for the client which slows down the reading. However, if the client is curious and wants to participate in the process, that works, too!
What if I want to learn to read for myself?
Awesome! Welcome to the journey! There are lots of resources around for learning how to read Tarot and I have my go-to references. For me, it has been most helpful to learn with the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck, as there are more resources for that than other decks. It’s fun to read with themed decks but the limitation is that the messages are usually not as descriptive and it is more challenging to recognize patterns and surface perspectives. I do read other decks but I tend to only use them in tandem with the RWS deck.
I have taught others to read Tarot from the very beginning, or from wherever they are in their journey and I’m open to discussing a mentoring plan that works for you. Feel free to contact me if you want to chat more!
